our philosophy

First and foremost behind what we do is the idea of working in accord with the natural quality of the land where we live.

A philosophy of production which is seen in our daily lives and day to day activities.

The estate is in fact an integral part of the history of Umbrian wine production- the fruit of generations of winegrowers who have been passionately dedicated to their land, and have combined this passion with a vision of both organic (certified) and biodynamic cultivation- which is not regarded simply as a trend, but as a way of life- the foundation of a production which extracts the true “soul” of Umbria from the soil.

«Our philosophy begins in the vineyard -. Only by working closely with natural principles, and by having a passion for our plants and our land can quality grapes be produced- without these, every wine loses in significance. This is why we have embraced organic cultivation: natural products which fertilize nature! We also firmly believe that a low yield, correct management of the earth’s resources and harvesting when the grapes are perfectly ripe help the land to give of its very best».

The company’s 30 hectares of vineyards lie on sundrenched hill slopes, mid-way between Torgiano and Montefalco. From the winery one can admire the country town of Assisi in all its splendour which seems to look back on the vineyards as their protector. Here one may once again find the cultivars of traditional Umbrian wines, with Grechetto and Sagrantino, the ancestors of our story.

With a recent change in the Disciplinary Commission of the Martani Hills, which will come into effect at the beginning of 2010, the Estate , first as tester and subsequently as guardian will be able to let you taste the Vernaccia of Cannara (now D.O.C.)

Thanks to the awareness and understanding we have of our region and also to the pruning by hand of each individual plant, we get great satisfaction from the grapes we bring to our cellars. Continued study of organic cultivation and attention to the biodynamic world enable us to experiment and consequently seek a deep and intimate expression of our land.
